Eken M001 Android tablet unboxing video

Running Android 1.6 with a 7″ Touchscreen, 128MB ram and SD card support the Eken M001 seems like a decent toy for the £100 mark, about a quarter of the price of the iPad for example.

Should Apple be scared? Er, definitely not but there are several manufacturers out there now offering alternatives so we decided to check this one out.

Dell Streak unboxing video

The Streak is a decent looking MID (mobile internet device) although many comment that it looks like a large Blackberry Storm. The spec is also good, 1GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and 5″ screen with ‘Gorilla Glass’ which is all but indestructible. Perhaps the only disappointment with the device is that it’s currently shipping with Android 1.6 rather than 2.1 or even 2.2. However, we’re told that later it will ship with 2.1 and there will be a free upgrade for existing customers very soon.

The iPad, like many Apple products, seems to be falling in to the Marmite category, either you love it or hate it. After just a few hours using the iPad I can tell you that I am definitely in the love it camp! I’m pretty sure that the iPad will be one of those pieces of technology that will never be far from my side.

I think that it’s fair to say that Asus played a fairly big role in the success and popularity of the netbook PC over the past few years with the Eee PC 701 selling in such vast quantities that it was hard to get hold of in the early days. Now it seems that all of the manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon with netbook PCs ranging in size from 7″ to 10″ displays you can more or less take your pick of your favourite manufacturer.

Acer Aspire 4810T unboxing video

Perhaps the one thing that makes the Aspire 4810T stand out from the rest of the crowd is the claim that the battery life is around 9 hours! Now we’ve all heard claims of exceptional battery life from manufacturers and they are often then subject to a caveat that it’s x hours of light use. However, my initial findings with the 4810T is that the claims could well be true. Having initially set it up yesterday and installing apps such as Firefox etc and then browsing the web for a few hours, the battery status says 35% remaining and 2.5 hours.

Viliv S5 premium 3G unboxing video

The Viliv S5 is a pretty well spec’d MID/UMPC that looks a little bit like a smaller version of the Samsung Q1 (a little). There’s a 4.8″ WXGA touch screen (1024×600), 32GB solid state drive (128GB SSD coming soon), 1GB Ram, Windows XP, Bluetooth, WiFi and perhaps most notably, build in SiRF Star III GPS chipset. In fact the S5 premium comes with a neat car mounting kit so that you can use it as an in-car SatNav device.
