Over the past few years we’ve looked almost all of the HD camcorders in Sanyo’s XACTI range. In fact we quite like the Xacti camcorders as they record decent quality HD footage in MP4 format on SD memory cards which makes it easy to transfer to the PC or Mac for editing. Most of the unboxing videos that you see on our YouTube channel (over 350 videos now! ) were recorded with my Sanyo Xacti HD1010.

The FH1 is at the top end of the Xacti range offering the best recording modes, 1080p/1080i/720p, as well as having a 16x optical zoom and 8 megapixel sensor. I’m expecting good things from the FH1!

Ever since the Sony released their HDR-FX1000 HD Handycam I’ve wanted to get my hands on one to review. As you are no doubt aware, I record a LOT of video for the website and although I am quite pleased with the results from the Sanyo HD1000 that I use at the moment I wanted to see what a proper high-end camcorder could do.

As you may know, last year we conducted a small group test of digital camcorders as we were looking for for something new to record our unboxing videos on. When we conducted our group test we set a budget of £200 – 250 and at the time the only HD camcorders to fall in to that price bracket were only capable of 720p and in fact not all the cameras on test were HD capable at that price point.

Panasonic Lumix FX500 unboxing video

We’ve looked at several Lumix models in the past but this FX500 is one of the higher models from Panasonic. Features include 10MP sensor, 25mm wide angle lens, 5x optical zoom, face chaser, smile sensor, steady shot – the list goes on! There’s even a 3″ Touch Screen on the back to simplify menu navigation and to provide a decent photo preview.

Sanyo Xacti HD2000 unboxing video

We’ve unboxed several other Sanyo Xacti camcorders and this is the latest HD2000. Looking the same externally as its predecessors, the HD1000 and HD1010, the new HD2000 offers some marked improvements.

The CMOS sensor has been upped to a 8.1 megapixel chip and the zoom has increased from 10x to 16x optical. The biggest difference though is that FullHD 1080p recordings can now be captured at 60FPS!

Incedentally this unboxing video was recorded on the HD1010 in 720p.

Sanyo Xacti HD700 camcorder unbox

The Sanyo Xacti HD700 is the 4th camcorder from our group test and the one we liked best! The HD700, as its name suggests, records video in HD (720P) on a SDHC memory card.

One of the nice things about the Xacti range is that you can capture still photos even while recording video footage and doing so does not interupt the video at all.

Sony HDR-SR11E Handycam unboxing video

The Sony HDR-SR11E is actually one of the cameras that we now use for our unboxing videos. This model sits at the high end of the Handycam range and records in glorious HD

Video footage can be recorded on either a MSPro Duo card or the built in 60GB hard drive. In the highest definition, highest quality setting you can record 7 hours of footange on the drive but if you are prepared to drop the res down a little and to pop it in LP mode you’ll get over 40 hours!
